NLP + Anxiety: Anxiety is a useful part of the ‘fight or flight’ response that alerts you to stressful or dangerous situations. The feeling of anxiety lets you know that you feel out of control, it keeps you watchful, helps you be prepared and take care of the important stuff. It can be anxiety about something you are looking forward to. Anxiety may include stress feelings and fear. An anxious person often does not have ‘real’ threat. Fear has a specific threat.
Anxiety
An anxious person cannot identify a ‘real’ threat. Anxiety is a useful part of the ‘fight or flight’ response to be aware of stressful or dangerous situations. The feeling of anxiety lets you know that you feel out of control, it keeps you watchful, helps you be prepared and take care of the important stuff. It can be anxiety about something you are looking forward to. I have learned to call this feeling 'anticipatory'. It can be a 'tad nervous', yet I know that I'm OK and it's OK for me to have these 'feelings'
The many symptoms of anxiety may include:
- Increased heart rate and palpitations
- Elevated blood pressure and flushing skin
- Body sweating
- Dilated pupils
- Feeling nauseous and/or vomiting
- Voice tremors/pitch changes
- Dry mouth
- Body aches and pains
- Body weakness
- Urinary frequency
- Numbness in limbs and/or tingling limbs
- Can begin in childhood to mid-life and on
- Difficulty falling asleep, insomnia or great fatigue
- Symptoms are often worse late in day
- Feeling helpless, nervous, fearful, feels out of control
- External worries about the future, may blame others or self
- Being overly-sensitive to what other people say or do
- May feel and even take on other peoples anxiety
- Confusion, restless, apprehensive, crying
- Low self-confidence
- Feel tense or stressed
- Criticism of self and others
- Withdrawal from people, activities
- Lack of initiative, apathy
- Unable to concentrate, confusion
- Uncomfortable forgetfulness or blocking thoughts
